The Benefits of Reformer Pilates

At The Springs, we have ten reasons why Reformer Pilates could be the perfect exercise for you. Whether it’s precision strength training, stretching and toning, a sweat-free full-body workout, or a sense of belonging and community, Reformer supports your goals in many ways.

Take what YOU need

Strength.

Practicing reformer is a great way of building full body strength, by moving through exercises with both bodyweight and resistance from the machine. Regular practice will strengthen your core, which will stabilise your body, enhance your posture and reduce the risk of injury during other physical activities.

Toning.

Movements are performed slowly and with control, using the breath and ensuring correct alignment. This enables us to target specific muscle groups and engagement of core muscles. Reformer can help you develop long, lean muscles and improve overall body composition and tone.

Fitness.

Reformer Pilates focuses on building strength, flexibility and balance, while also providing a low-impact, full-body workout. It perfectly complements all other types of exercise and will help improve your overall fitness level.

Flow.

As we flow through controlled, continuous movements in class, your strength and stamina will increase and you’ll enjoy the experience that the flow brings, both in calming and balancing the body but also the calming of your mind.

Me Time.

Taking time for yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your mental health and well being. Put yourself first for just a little while and take what you need from your Reformer Pilates classes here at The Springs.

Precision.

Our small class setting allows us to work with you all on an individual level to ensure that you can perform the exercises with controlled, precise movements, targeting specific muscle groups and maximising the benefit of the exercises.

Control.

Every exercise is done with complete muscular control. It is all a conscious, deliberate movement, controlled with the mind. You control the pace, the breath, the moving carriage, the way you execute the exercise , and most importantly your own progress.

Release.

Mastering control of your breath during classes is transformative, it deepens the mind-body connection and brings relief from stress and a sense of calmness to your entire body.

Rebuild.

Reformer can help you rebuild strength and functional movement after a sports or accidental injury, with the ability to isolate exercises and muscle movements. It can also be transformative to help you rebuild control of your life, after trauma, loss, or loneliness.

Community.

Be part of a community, feel included and empowered and have fun exercising no matter your fitness level. You will always see friendly faces in our classes and always be welcomed!

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about Reformer Pilates, our studio, and class bookings.

You can book by downloading our The Springs Studios App or access through our Classes page. We offer pay-as-you-go classes, 2 reformer membership options and beginner courses.

If you have never used a reformer before, we recommend you contact us before booking, so we can discuss the best way for you to start your reformer journey.

Your safety is our priority and we need to determine your individual requirements first, so we can best prepare you for using the reformer.

We may suggest booking a 1-1 session with us first, to get you comfortable, confident and safe on the Reformer.

Deciding on the right time to resume or start exercise after having a baby is very dependent on the individual, your birth and your body.

So we would need to talk to you to establish the best way of easing you back into exercise and when is the right time to start.

The NHS website states:

If you had a straightforward birth, you can start gentle exercise as soon as you feel up to it. This could include walking, gentle stretches, pelvic floor and tummy exercises.

It’s usually a good idea to wait until after your 6-week postnatal check before starting high-impact exercise, such as aerobics or running.

We recommend getting your GP/ midwife or health visitor’s go-ahead before you exercise post having a baby, especially if you had a surgical birth.

There is a private GP on-site at Bodyworx and an experienced physio team. We can discuss your options for a physio-led 1-1 session on the Reformer to ensure you’re exercising safely.

When it comes to injury recovery and rehabilitation your safety is our primary concern.

We’re lucky to be located within the Bodyworx Health clinic where they have an on-site doctor and physio, where you can have a private referral.

You can also book a physio-led 1:1 reformer session. We will then make a judgement based on assessing you as to whether you are ready to participate in our group dynamic classes.

You will need to bring a drink to keep hydrated and a towel.

We also recommend you bring sticky socks with you. If you don’t have sticky socks, you can purchase them at the studio.

We’d like you to feel as comfortable as possible so comfortable activewear is advisable.

You don’t need to wear crop tops or anything skin-tight if it makes you feel uncomfortable, but please don’t wear clothes that are too baggy as we need to see your body alignment to ensure you are executing the moves safely and correctly.

Sticky socks are a must because they will stop you from slipping on the reformer. If you don’t have any you can purchase them from The Springs studio.
