Who is the beginners Reformer Pilates Course for?

If you are new to reformer, or would like a slower introduction to our classes, then we recommend one of our beginner courses.

In your sessions we will introduce you to the reformer and walk you through step by step how to use the equipment to make you feel as confident as possible. You will start by learning to perform basic Pilates exercises with confidence and correct technique, and then we will add progressions to the exercises.

We aim to create a safe space and environment for you to learn to love the reformer as much as we do. By the end of this beginner course, we want for you to feel confident participating in our dynamic reformer classes.

If you have never used a reformer before, we recommend you contact us before booking, so we can discuss the best way for you to start your reformer journey.

Your safety is our priority and we need to determine your individual requirements first, so we can best prepare you for using the reformer.

We may suggest booking a 1-1 session with us first, to get you comfortable, confident and safe on the Reformer.

Deciding on the right time to resume or start exercise after having a baby is very dependent on the individual, your birth and your body.

So we would need to talk to you to establish the best way of easing you back into exercise and when is the right time to start.

The NHS website states:

If you had a straightforward birth, you can start gentle exercise as soon as you feel up to it. This could include walking, gentle stretches, pelvic floor and tummy exercises.

It’s usually a good idea to wait until after your 6-week postnatal check before starting high-impact exercise, such as aerobics or running.

We recommend getting your GP/ midwife or health visitor’s go-ahead before you exercise post having a baby, especially if you had a surgical birth.

There is a private GP on-site at Bodyworx and an experienced physio team. We can discuss your options for a physio-led 1-1 session on the Reformer to ensure you’re exercising safely.

When it comes to injury recovery and rehabilitation your safety is our primary concern.

We’re lucky to be located within the Bodyworx Health clinic where they have an on-site doctor and physio, where you can have a private referral.

You can also book a physio-led 1:1 reformer session. We will then make a judgement based on assessing you as to whether you are ready to participate in our group dynamic classes.

You will need to bring a drink to keep hydrated and a towel.

We also recommend you bring sticky socks with you. If you don’t have sticky socks, you can purchase them at the studio.

We’d like you to feel as comfortable as possible so comfortable activewear is advisable.

You don’t need to wear crop tops or anything skin-tight if it makes you feel uncomfortable, but please don’t wear clothes that are too baggy as we need to see your body alignment to ensure you are executing the moves safely and correctly.

Sticky socks are a must because they will stop you from slipping on the reformer. If you don’t have any you can purchase them from The Springs studio.
